What Happened

What Happened?

This year [2008] at the Beaver Lake Club for our Winter Carnival, we partied big!

First of all, on Friday night, visitors were treated to a spaghetti supper and then we had the opening ceremonies with a skating demonstration with figure skaters, a balaclava man, Frosty the Snowman, a Gorilla…thing, and two beavers. Then followed by a spectacular fireworks demonstration that lit up the winter sky. Then followed by a euchre party after.

Saturday arrived in due time and many (207 to be exact) lined up at the Club for our famous Finnish Pancakes. Grilled to perfection by our expert pancake flippers, people enjoyed a sweet start to the day. Those who had the breakfast burned every calorie enjoying the rest of the day, with jug curling, skiing, ball hockey, and silent auction. Kids had fun playing games like bean bag toss, and even had their faces painted! The adults (and some kids too!) tested their abilities with the annual boot toss and rolling pin toss outside. Some women threw that rolling pin 80 feet! One person actually flung it so hard that it actually broke up in mid-air!!! And the men threw the boot and one person got about 75 feet.

Sunday arrived and once again the Finnish pancakes were flying off the grill (about 140) and the kids enjoyed the Ramakko’s Fishing Derby, and the adults participated in the snow machine poker run. Draws were made for the penny table, 50/50, and the silent auction.

We very much enjoyed having the event and next year is going to be bigger and better.
